February Vacation

We've had a great week together. It started with a mini-vacation for me to celebrate my college roommate, Chrissy & her new hubby Alex at a reception in NYC. It was a beautiful night in Central Park at the Boathouse - black and white surrounding Chrissy in Red. Our other roommate, Laura, has New York running through her veins so she organized us and treated us all weekend long. For example, on the drive down I realized that I had left my evening gown for the night, my senior year Homingcoming court dress (yes from 1995) back in Natick. 30 minutes after I called Laura she and Marissa had been to Bloomingdales and had the dress you see here in hand!

I did miss my little people though and found myself telling stories all night long. It reminded me to post some of the things that Jane and Turner have done/said:

In the bathroom:
Jane cheers for us whenever any of use the potty. "Yeah daddy!"
Turner one day made quite a mess around the toilet. After we cleaned it up I asked Turner what he had learned. He said, "to not dance when I am peeing." awesome!

Religious references:
Turner found some dice in the house and was playing with them. Overheard to Hanky: "Hank, this is like the Catholic dreidel."
On reflecting on February, 14th Turner said, "It must be Valentine's day everyday in heaven."

Other Random happenings:
Jane, most recently found a picture of a baby on her mattress. She loves to undo her sheet and say "night, night baby," Very funny except that the last thing Jane needs is a new part to her bedtime routine.

For the rest of the vacation we were sledding, snow balling, eating at Stone's and Turner and I went Skiing at Ski Ward - for all you from Ohio - it was a mini- snow trails. Perfect for learning to snow plow.

You might have noticed the Red Sox sweatshirt... the transformation has begun.

Birthday Winter Olympics

We celebrated this morning with Turner's pre-school class and other friends. It was a lot of fun! We had an opening ceremony - and true to the winter olympics the torch was tough to light - with a parade and olympic music and then the olympic athletes competed in a hockey shoot, marshmellow throw, olympic ring toss and a hat and scarf relay.

We ended with the Happy Birthday song, hot coco, cupcakes and medals! Turner had a great time! For all the talk of moving, today was a very good day to be in this place.

Happy Birthday to Turner!

Our Turner is 5 today. He is an easy guy to celebrate because he is so excitable. We've played with the "pound of legos" we bought off of ebay most of the morning, drafted the path to his olympic obstacle course for tomorrow's bash and will be baking the rest of the day. #5 is a big one and we're so proud of him. Here are some of our favorite memories with the little man.

Making it...

The past couple of weeks have been up and down here - we're way up now because we've gotten past a few bugs and the Hanky boo is sleeping much better. Almost 5 years into this gig - I really think almost everything in life comes down to 3 simple things: sleep, food and lots of love. Have those and you're set and the first has more weight than I sometimes want to admit.

We are rolling, reading, baking, building legos, and watching elmo most hours of the day. Turner is off the hook excited about his 5th birthday - his preschool class will be joining us on Saturday for the Birthday Olympics. He received and early gift from Big Turner - tickets to his beloved Celtics. He and Matt had a very special night. Thanks T!

Jane continues to make us laugh with her 2 year old antics - as most people are tyring to wean their toddlers off of the pacifiers, Jane now has a collection in her crib. She was crying out for her dropped "mumbo" in the middle of the night so we tried the solution of just adding more. However, now she loves to count and is not happy if she cannot find all 4! She also looked through her baby book the other day and lovingly pointed out all of the pictures where she had her mumbo as if she was with a best friend. It's here to stay for awhile longer and we realize that sometimes our strategies just don't work.

Our house is on the market again - check us out at www.66summernatick.blogspot.com. It adds an element of stress I have to admit, but every thing is an opportunity and so we are waiting for our adventure to begin (this is how we have been trying to sell it to Turner who really does not want to move away from Jim, KayKay, Ben and Gracie) and in the mean time practicing being present to today. If we can be present in the midst of this uncertainty, we'll be pro's at it in the future.
